How we teach Grit at The T

How do you teach grit to children? How do you teach a child to push through difficult situations? How do you teach a child to get back up on their feet after a failure? It's a topic often discussed by parents about their children and in the upcoming generation. We believe that playing a sport, and more specifically, playing squash in our unique programming at The T builds this essential quality of success in our children. We call it grit, and it's one of our 3 core values in the foundation of our program.

Grit Training In Action

Three T Academy squash junior players played in their first competitive tournament this month. After playing in The T’s group clinics for several months, Corinne Adams, Katie Mundy and Ellie Tew all anxiously took the next step in their squash journey, playing against opponents from other clubs in Cincinnati and around the region.

For many who are accustomed to team sports, it’s difficult to imagine the pressure a squash player feels when entering the court to play a match. One player alone plays against another player. The match takes place in a glass box where everyone can see your great shots and your mistakes. Just trying to maintain composure as each ball is won or lost in the game is a huge victory. It takes time, support and practice to play a competitive squash match. The T squash programming, the coaches, the T players and the families are ALL a part of the grit support team. They support each child so that these experiences teach and encourage real, lasting strength of character. Win or lose, these girls have learned that she has what it takes to stay in the game. If you would like your child to experience this kind of self esteem building through squash, please visit The T website to schedule a tour.
